For those who missed it, Google Moon was released in honor of the first manned moon mission. Since they were claiming to be building a moon base for research by April 1, 2007 I figured I’d drop them the follow email:

With the advancements Google is doing in search engine and lunar housing. The future of gaming has been brought in question. As Googlunites spend their long hours up at the new Googlunaplex. They will attempt to pick up some of their old gaming habits they started back on Earth. This happens to include (but not limited to) everything from first person shooters to real-time strategy gaming.

And as we all know, the ability to control such games in a low gravity environment has not yet been tested. For all we know World of Warcraft 2 or Quake 5 could be unplayable. Leaving Googlunites to fend with Space Solitaire (the only NASA Certified game) or listen to aliens from Alpha Centauri argue on about their plans to put a hyperspace bypass through
this section of the galaxy.

This will lead to unrest among the engineers!!! (Listening to Alpha Centaurians discuss politics is worse than Vogon poetry but maybe not as bad as Paul Neil Milne Johnstone of Redbridge. In any case it could drive even the most sane human into a killing spree!)

I’m willing to head a small team of Lunar Game Testers to help gaming companies plan for those Googlunites (along with those others vagrants that may be sleeping under Google supplied park benches under “Google News and Moon Report” newspaper).

I can have a team of five experts ready for action before April 1, 2006. We will be willing to live in the starter construction buildings for the first year to ensure no Googlunites will be harmed by lack of good game play when the April 1, 2007 come around.

The only thing we ask is you don’t start testing the radio telescope in the direction of alpha Centauri until after we have completed enough games to keep us busy.

Sadly, it sounds like they have too many applications and thus mine will end up in /dev/null if I’m reading their reply right.

Thank you for contacting Google about our Copernicus Research Center.

We’ve received an overwhelming response to this opportunity and are not currently accepting additional resumes. We will, however, keep your information on file should we have an opening in the future. At the current staffing levels, we anticipate that we may need additional applicants on or around April Fool’s Day in 2104. Until then, we appreciate your interest in Google and your taking the time to write us.

Sincerely,

The Googlunar Recruiting Team

Oh well, there goes my dreams.
